So it’s been a month since I posted anything, that’s how I roll.
Molly B or Molly Bear as we have started to call her is fitting in just well. She is a very lovable little girl and I am sure she thinks she is in heaven after being stuck in a cage making puppies for 7 years. Rufus gets along really good with her. It is either his age or he just likes the younger girls, one of the two. He was really depressed after we lost Darby though so Molly has raised his spirits back to where they are suppose to be. She’s even good with Nikki and those two seem to get along fine…until Molly decides she wants the attention. She’ll knock Rufus out of the way if she needs to for some love. She loves love.
Been putting some miles on Dino but apparently every few weeks we are required to get caught in the rain. I’m not really sure what it is but it seems to happen. Last month we took shelter in some store. It was a mix of Farm and Fleet and Bass Pro Shop. Anyhow we bought some cheap rain suits there. Probably wouldn’t have needed them if I hadn’t of taken a wrong turn and had us headed up to Chicago. Not necessarily a bad thing since if we would have kept going we would have ended up in Indiana. Still ended up to be a really nice ride and we only got a little wet on that one.
Two weeks ago we went up to Starved Rock with my friend from work Kim and her husband and Mike. It was a humid day and after walking around up there a bit we started to head out for a nearby Harley show but did a quick u-turn and rode away from the rain that started pouring down. Even though we had been headed west away from the storm we got caught in another a hour or so later and had to take refuge under an overpass. It was a popular overpass, there was another rider already there. After 15 minutes or so we jumped on the bikes and headed out.
On Wed I get this bright idea to take off early. Of course I forgot my house key, I do this on the bike occasionally and I have to ride over to Tracy’s work to pick on up. Which reminds me to go put one in the bike…be right back..ok spare keys in the bike. Well I’m walking outside and the sun is out an everything..from my vantage point. She’s telling me it’s dark out and pouring. Well the wind is blowing her way so I’m thinking maybe the rain will pass by there fast. Umm no. I ended up taking shelter under a tree for about 15 minutes as a monsoon passed by. No really it was a monsoon. The road in front of the post office..all but closed due to the flooding and since I was on the bike I didn’t dare to cross it so took a alternate route which was still horrible. If my shoes were’t wet before then well.. Lets just say I saw 4 cars on a side street that will be filling flood claims. The water was well above the bottom of the doors and this was where said river I rode through was coming from.
In writing news I have a few projects that I am working on. Honestly there are always a few projects I am working on. I have more novel and short story notes/ideas then I know what to do with. In order to get to half of them I would need to stay at home and write all the time which I am fine with but money has to come from somewhere. I have two stories that I am focusing on and another that I am doing notes on for NaNoWriMo in November. The first has the working name of Urban and is something I wrote last November for NaNoWriMo. The concept of this story is just great if I do say so myself. As a result I have taken the 52,000 words I wrote in November and have started a rewrite from scratch using those 52K words as a reference. The story is ever changing but the characters are staying somewhat the same. This isn’t a horror piece, well it is in a sense based on what the lead character goes through, it’s a sci-fi piece..in a way…thats all I am saying for now.
Other writing news is the project called Redville. This is one of those never been done before things. My friend Will Ross from 118 Migration is helping out on this. More to come later.
My friend Rhiannon Frater recently signed with TOR and I am thrilled to death for her, such a great thing for such a great writer.
The last part would have to be about the podcast Watchers of Anarchy that I do with my wife Tracy and a friend of ours Laura. It’s a fan podcast for the FX TV show Sons of Anarchy. It’s a great show and we love it, part of the reason why we do the podcast. Anyhow, we have a few thousand listeners and needed a good opening song for the show. In January Tracy came across a band that was perfect for our show.
The name of the band is Preacher Stone and they are a southern rock band. I love their music and listen to the cd on a regular basis. So once I heard them I just had to send an email out and see if we could use a song on our podcast. Much to my surprise they wrote back and said yes. The band is also a fan of Sons of Anarchy. Well long story short, I received a call from Marty Hill who plays lead guitar in the band and he let me know that their song “Not Today” is going to be played in a Season 3 episode of Sons of Anarchy. This is just a amazing thing and we are thrilled for the band. We know we have some cast members that listen to the show so it makes you wonder if they talked about the band as well.
Ok thats all you get for now. Time to head off to the farmers market.
