Biking and Trucking – Post 12 – The Zombie Series
The following is a fictional account leading up to the Zombie Run I will be running on August 2. If you ask a question though it will be answered from within the universe this story is set.
Taking it easy right before the run on Saturday, don’t want to do something stupid like twist an ankle, pull a muscle or anything bad like that. Did go for a bike ride though and that has been a long time. Not because I just haven’t done it but up until yesterday I didn’t have a working bike. The one that I did have had a bent front wheel and was pretty much useless. As you can imagine finding spare parts isn’t the easiest thing sometimes but I managed a trade and got a new one that works just fine. Also helped that I told the guy he could have the bike if I didn’t make it through the run so basically got the tire for next to nothing. Guess he didn’t think I had that much of a chance to make it. I feel confident at any rate besides, if I make it I don’t have to go back to work in that cubicle, if I don’t make it I still don’t have to go back to work in that cubicle. See, win win situation for me. Lived way too long in this world to be stuck doing nothing every day.
Had a group of visitors show up today from one of the colonies a little farther north of us. They show up about twice a year to do some trade with us and as you can see their 6×6 semi has been just slightly modified. The design layout isn’t much different than ours but you needed something like that on a trade wagon if you planned on traveling a few hundred miles to the next outpost. Lot of bad things out there in the wastelands and most of them still have a pulse. Chances are these old diesels are the only type of vehicles you will see running which is why there are still a few old military vehicles around. Bio-diesel isn’t all that hard to manufacture. Replacement parts are though which is why we have people in the Salvage Squad like Andrew “The Hammer” Carr who posted a comment awhile back. Seeing that truck is another reason I am ready for the run, after I finish I get to gear up to ride on our trade wagon. Been awhile since I have been outside these walls. Would much rather be outside of them then back in a building surrounded by cubicle walls.
